The story

The Lucky Cat sculpture in Ottawa's Chinatown showcases the charm of the neighbourhood's multiculturalism and symbolizes the vitality of this thriving commercial district. The sculpture is primarily yellow, representing wealth and power and considered an auspicious colour, while the red enhances its joyful, enthusiastic atmosphere.

Its left hand holds a gold ingot and its right raises a banner reading 招财进宝 (attract wealth and treasure), conveying blessings and prosperity. The character 發 (pronounced fa), meaning to prosper, adorns its belly, symbolising the pursuit of success and wealth.
